How to depot your Urban Decay Book of Shadows without ruining the original packaging!

Depotting Urban Decay's Book of Shadows is a lot easier than depotting their 15th Anniversary Palette. There are a lot of tutorials out there that teach you how to depot, but you'll end up ruining the beautiful packaging. Not a fan of that idea, I paid a good price for these, and would rather keep the cute packaging (if only for bragging rights).

For this you will need the following:
1. Urban Decay Book of Shadows (I have BOS I and III)

2. Nail cuticle pusher or anything with a thin & sharp edge. Anything that causes my boyfriend to get antsy while I hold it near him is a good option.

3. Empty Palette (I have the Z-Palette - http://www.zpalette.com/)

4. Labels (Unless you have an eidetic memory, in which case...I hate you =P)

Steps:
1. Put the nail cuticle pusher in between the pan and the box. Sometimes you will get lucky to find that there is already a space between the two. Wedge the tool, apply firm and constant pressure on the box. Gently work your way around the box separating as you go. Remember, BE GENTLE! Gently prop the pan out...did I mention Be Gentle?

2. Remove any glue residue. I just used my finger, and rolled the adhesive off. You CAN use Glue Off, but I'd advise against it. If you got some in the shadow, then accidentally applied it to your eye, you might want to just roll over and go back to bed, because the rest of the day is gonna pretty much suck.

3. Label your shadows. (This is of course, optional...if you have that previously mentioned eidetic memory.)

4. Arrange the way you would want to inside your palette.

I didn't take the 3 pans off of BOS III since BOS I had the same shade.

Result: Beautiful shadows that I can haul around with me!

xoxo,
Michelle

  1. Fantastic! I have a love/hate relationship with my Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows. The bulky packaging makes me not want to lug it out all the time, and yet it is so pretty I can't bear to destroy it.
